The Accuracy Gap — Why LED Facade Colors Are Approximations, Not Perfect Matches

Before going further, it is important to set an accurate expectation: LED facade color output is a close approximation of brand hex colors — not a perfect match.

Three factors create the gap between digital hex specification and physical LED output:

Factor 1 — LED diode color temperature variation. Red, green, and blue LED diodes from different manufacturers have slightly different peak emission wavelengths. Two LED strips both specified as “red channel” may produce slightly different visible red output. Factory binning reduces this variation, but does not eliminate it.

Factor 2 — Building facade surface color. The perceived color of LED facade lighting depends on what it hits. A white stucco facade reflects LED light with high accuracy. A tan stucco facade adds warm yellow tones to the perceived output. A red brick facade absorbs blue channel light. The final visible color on the building surface is a combination of LED output and surface reflectance — not LED output alone.

Factor 3 — Ambient light competition.
